For military historians, the question of what exactly happened to the British Army records WO363 and 364 is one which has kept brains buzzing for generations. We know of course that millions of records stored in that fated warehouse on Arnside Street were destroyed  in 1940 during the Blitz by Luftwaffe bombs. But how can one explain why so few records for one regiment survive, whilst for another, it seems that every other record is virtually intact? Findmypast's military expert Paul Nixon may have the answer in his Christmas Despatches.
