We’re delighted to report the fantastic success of Hints, which we introduced in December to help you get closer to solving those mysteries which crop up on your family history journey.
We saw an incredible 10 million Hints generated in the three months following their introduction, with our running total now at 13 million.
As we’ve gradually built up the Hints process, we’ve gone from a few thousand to around half a million Hints automatically generated per day, and sometimes more. On the 13th March, we generated nearly a million Hints!
We’ve generated Hints for over half a million users so far, covering about 400 record sets.
1.5 million users have actioned Hints so far, with about 800,000 accepted, just over a million “maybe-d”, and half a million rejected.
So far Hints are based on Birth Marriage and Death records, but we’ve plenty more developments in the pipeline for census records, so watch this space!
Hints are so easy to use, as they’re delivered without you having to do anything. Whenever you add a new person to your tree, or amend a key piece of information for anyone on it already, you might notice that a number within a circle appears on your relative's profile. This number represents the number of Hints we've found for that person. If you want to take a closer look at these Hints, simply click on “Review”, and you’ll be able to take a more detailed look at the potential match.
You can learn more about how to use Hints here in this dedicated help post.
Using Hints is a great way to build up your confidence as a family historian. You receive three Hints per category so that you can compare them, making it easier to determine how likely it is that a Hint is correct.
We hope that you continue to enjoy using Hints, and that they help you discover more of your family’s story!
