Findmypast user Kathleen makes some incredible finds in the records...
My mothers family came from Mallow Co Cork. In 2004 I went on a trip to Mallow to see what I could find. I thought maybe you would be interested to know I have researched many members of my mother's family with fantastic results, and I am really pleased with my results.
My grandfather was registrar for birth death and marriages and although he died in 1969 my cousin kept his diaries. People from Mallow still remembered him with affection. I was able to get back to 1800 to great grandparents and their children and great great grandparents and children. My great grandfather was also the registrar and a poor law guardian.

Also me and my mother are named after my grandmother. Most of my aunts were named after other members of the family and repeated if a child died such as Mary Kate. My mother had seven siblings who travelled to America, Australia and England, found work, married and had children whose ancestors are still alive today.
I have wonderful original records plus details of service, not only in the army, but the murder of my cousin in Cork city in 1920.The Irish newspapers helped.

I am still on the trail but now, as a pensioner, I can no longer afford to travel about, so I usually try the library for free access to family tree programs.
