Start exploring your family tree

Come meet Findmypast and Mocavo at the first-ever Global Family Reunion on June 6th in New York City’s Hall of Science. This global family affair aims to be the biggest, most inclusive, and most entertaining family reunion in history – and you’re invited along with everyone else on the planet. For one day only, celebrities, genealogists, and scientists will lead various talks along on top of a full schedule of comedy, games, interactive exhibits, and food for everyone. Among those participating are actor Daniel Radcliffe, President George H.W. Bush, and comedian Nick Kroll.

All proceeds from the event go towards fighting Alzheimer’s and will be distributed to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and the Alzheimer’s Association NYC Chapter. The Global Family Reunion was founded by author A.J. Jacobs, who became fascinated with the idea that every person on Earth is related to every other after entering his name in several genealogy websites and finding he was connected to people all over the globe.

Looking for talks to attend? Our own D. Joshua Taylor, Findmypast’s Director of Family History, will discuss “Hollywood and Family History,” America’s fascination with celebrity genealogy, and give advice on how to discover connections to a celebrity tree. Plus, the co-founder of our partner AncestorCloud, Wesley Eames, will be speaking on the nature of cousins historically and comically.

Also at the event, we’ll be announcing the Cousin App. Ever wonder why that Facebook friend has the same nose as you? You might actually be third cousins from your mom’s side. Want to explore if your uncanny resemblance to Brad Pitt has genetic roots? You’d be surprised how few degrees of separation there are. To satisfy that curiosity Findmypast (with data from Mocavo, a Findmypast company) collaborated with AncestorCloud and Global Family Reunion to create the Cousin App for iOS (iPhones and iPads) and for Android devices.

The app makes it simple to track and discover family history using Facebook, the best social media resource, as well the expansive family history databases powering Findmypast and Mocavo. We wanted a way to jump-start conversations, stoke curiosity to look a little deeper into family history, and discover the surprising ways we’re all connected.

Sound interesting? Come meet Findmypast and Mocavo at the Global Family Reunion for a demo of the Cousin App and be among the first to gain access to the app. Sign up for the private beta at the Global Family Reunion and Cousin app website!

Hope to see you at the reunion!
